WEDNESDAY UPDATE:  Changes Ahead – Cooler, Then, COLDER

Good morning!  Springtime in December continues.  Tuesday’s high was 79°. That tied the record from 1984.  We’ll be in the mid 70’s again today.  Widely scattered showers return to our forecast today and tonight as a cold front moves southward.  There could even be a thunderstorm or two.  Much cooler air will follow. It’ll be much cooler Thursday and Friday.  But, a second stage of cold air will funnel into the state by Friday night.  The first official weekend of Winter will be quite cold,  Highs will barely reach the lower 50’s.  Expect a series of sub-freezing mornings starting Saturday.  The Winter solstice is Saturday morning at 3:20 AM.  The next rain chance could arrive by Christmas day.  Here’s my brief video forecast discussion

TODAY:  DENSE FOG ADVISORY until 8:00 AM.  Limited sunshine today.  Still warm.  High in the mid 70’s.  Risk of some widely scattered showers and maybe a thunderstorm.  Best chance 3PM to midnight,  Cooler tonight.  Low48.

Here’s the set-up as the cold front moves southward today and yhis evening.  The line of showers with the front will tend to fall apart as it slides southward into central Alabama

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Thursday and Friday will be much cooler.   Then, a re-enforcing Cold Front will deliver a second stage of COLDER air, starting Friday night and through the first official weekend of Winter.  Look for temperatures to start to recover again Christmas Week.

Here’s Expected rainfall for the next 6 days. Notice: the southern half of the state will not see a lot of rain.

Winter BEGINS:  The Winter solstices Saturday.  The first weekend of Winter will be rather COLD.

Here’s the 10 day Temp trend.  COLD weekend.  Then a temperature turnaround closer to Christmas day.

CHRISTMAS FORECAST:  The Christmas Day forecast continues to evolve.  An approaching storm system will bring an increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  Will it be a severe weather situation.  Too early to say.   SPC admits a Severe threat is not out of the question.

So, for Christmas Day I’ll say:  Scattered showers and thunderstorms.  AM low 46. PM high near 65.  Low Christmas night 49.

Here’s the EURO and GFS snapshots on Christmas.  Both now agree on a wet Christmas forecast.

Thanks for reading the blog. There will be another complete Blog update and video forecast discussion tomorrow morning.  This morning, everything is normal including LIVE on the Radio from 6 to 9AM on NewsTalk 93.1 – WACV.  Have a nice day!
