THURSDAY Update:   Arctic Chill Hangs on – Slow Weekend Recovery

Good Morning!  The long-standing Arctic Cold hangs on and on.  We’re back to the teens again this morning.  Snow is on the ground in all 50 states. Normal high low is 60/36. We’ve been below normal for several days and we’ll continue below normal for at least 5 more days.  Over the weekend, we’ll at least break 50 degrees.  I have us in the upper 50’s by Monday and teasing 60 degrees by next Tuesday.  The next frontal system will bring in a small chance of rain Sunday and a better chance Sunday night and Monday. Here’s my brief video forecast discussion.

CLIMATE DATA: Wednesday morning’s low at MGM was 13, coldest of the season so far. Afternoon high 37. (Normal 60/56) Official Tuesday snowfall at MGM was .5″. (Birmingham had a record low of 9)

TODAY:    Partly sunny.  Still TOO Cold. Cold Weather Advisory continues. High 42.  Northwest wind 6 to 12 mph.  Partly cloudy, frigid tonight.  Low near 20.

ALL 50 STATES: As of yesterday, all 50 states have now seen measurable snowfall this season. Yes, that includes Hawaii where volcanic peaks often experience snow. Having all 50 states involved happens only on occasion, typically reliant on rare snow to make it all the way to the Sunshine State.

THE BIG SNOW:  There’s this big controversy over how MUCH snow fell in New Orleans.   The OFFICIAL snow measurement comes from the Airport (MSY)  – BUT, take a look at this roof time lapse from WWL-TV on the ROOF of their building on North Rampart.   Amazing.  A FOOT OF SNOW!

NEXT FEW DAYS:  It’s STILL too cold.  We stay below normal for at least 5 more days.  Friday’s high of 45 is dismal.  Over the weekend, we’ll at least break 50 degrees.  I have us in the upper 50’s by Monday and teasing 60 degrees by next Tuesday.  The next chance of showers will be on Sunday and especially Sunday night and Monday as the next front approaches.

Here’s the 10 Day Model Blend Temperature Trend.    Most of next week we’ll reach 60 or above.  Yay.  It’s about time!

Thanks for reading this blog update. This morning everything is normal.  We’ll be LIVE on NewsTalk 93.1.  There will be another Blog Update and Forecast Video discussion in the 4’o’clock hour tomorrow morning.  Have a good day,

–Rich
