FRIDAY Update:  Rain Today –  Spring-like in the Dead of Winter

Good morning!  There’s rain on the radar this morning. An approaching front will bring showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms through much of today, clearing out by this evening. The spring-like warmth continues on this last day of January.  We’ll be in the lower 70’s today after an amazing 76 on Thursday. Timing is everything.  The weekend looks dry and nice.  We’ll be in the 60’s Saturday and lower 70’s on  Sunday.  In fact, next week looks amazingly warm for the first week on February.  Winter is on hold.   Here’s my brief video forecast discussion.

CLIMATE:  Thursday was simply amazing.  At MGM the high was 76, after a month of January that has been the coldest since 1988.  (Morning Low 44)    Normal hi/lo 61/37.

TODAY:    Showers likely.  A few thunderstorms possible.  Breezy.  South wind 10 to 20 mph, gusting as high as 30.  Partly cloudy tonight. Low 43.

Here’s Future Radar.  The HRRR model shows the initial line of showers (possibly storms) arriving this morning.  And the trailing end of the rain, along the front, by mid to late afternoon.

SPC says some of the storms in southeast Alabama could be strong, possibly severe.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  The forecast for the weekend and beyond continues to  look spectacular.  Sunshine will dominate, as February begins.  Highs will be well into the 60’s Saturday and lower 70’s on Sunday.  Not bad for the Dead of Winter.  In fact, it doesn’t end with the weekend.  Monday through Wednesday looks dry and warm with highs possibly reaching the upper 70’s.  Enjoy this remarkable pattern.  We all know Winter will return.  But, this is a nice break from winter after the coldest January since 1988.

Here’s the 10 day model blend temperature trend.  The first week of February looks amazingly warm.

Thanks for reading this blog update. This morning everything is normal.  We’ll be LIVE on NewsTalk 93.1.  There will be another Blog Update and Forecast Video discussion in the 4’o’clock hour tomorrow morning.  Have a good day,
