Good morning! After a beautiful first weakened of February, our amazing Winter Thaw continues. We’ll be in the upper 70’s today through Tuesday. Eighty degrees or warmer Wednesday through Saturday could mean records tied or broken. Risk of showers returns as a front approaches and then stalls Thursday through Saturday. Here’s my video forecast discussion.
CLIMATE: Thursday’s high 76. Friday’s High 71. Saturday 68. Yesterday (Sunday), the AM Low was 37, high 72. Normal 62/38.
TODAY: Sunshine. Warmer. High 77. Southwest wind at 5 to 10 mph. Mostly clear. Low 51.
NEXT FEW DAYS: It’s getting warmer and warmer. We’ll be in the upper 70’s through Tuesday. Eighty or warmer Wednesday through Saturday could mean records tied or broken. Risk of showers as a front approaches and then stalls Thursday through Saturday.
An amazing upper Ridge of High Pressure will keep any potential cold air at bay. Temperatures by mid week will be some 20+ degrees above normal. Winter is on hold.
Late week front will be the focus for scattered showers Thursday through Sunday.
Here’s the 10 day model blend temperature trend. Very warm this week. Cooler next week, but no signs of Arctic Air at this point.
THREATENING RECORDS?: Especially from Wednesday through Saturday, We should be very close to Record Highs here in Alabama and in adjoining states.
SEVERE WEATHER AWARENES: ‘Tis the season for severe weather across the Gulf south. The peak season runs from now into May. We also have a secondary season in the Fall. Speaking in broader terms, it’s really become one long season from about late October to mid May. In 2023, 70 tornadoes touched down across Alabama. Unfortunately, 9 lives were lost, and over 29 were injured.
