TUESDAY Update:  Amazing Winter Thaw Continues – Teasing Record Highs

Good morning! We are living the dream. Our amazing, extended,  Winter Thaw continues.  Our temperatures continue far above normal, and that will continue  for several more days.  Record highs will be threatened. Winter is on hold.  A late week front will move southward into the state and stall.  This will be the focus of a few showers Thursday through Sunday, but nothing widespread or heavy.  No severe weather is expected.  Here’s my video forecast discussion.

CLIMATE:    Yesterday (Monday), the low at MGM was 37.  High 79 (shy of the record of 82).   Normal 67/38.

TODAY:  DENSE FOG ADVISORY for SE Alabama  A Sun/cloud mix today.  Continued warm.   High 78.  Southwest wind at 5 to 10 mph.  Mostly clear.  Low 51.  (Record 83/1957)

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Our Amazing Winter Thaw continues.   Springtime in February. We will be near or above normal Wednesday through Sunday.  (Normal 62/38).  Even overnight lows wilk be simply amazing.  Upper 50’s and Lower 60’s.  Small risk of widely scattered showers Thursday through Sunday.  Nothing widespread or heavy.

Late week front will enter the state and stall.  This could be the focus of a few showers.  Northing widespread or heavy.  Nothing severe.

Here’s the 10 day model blend temperature trend.  Very warm this week.  Cooler next week, starting Monday, but not cold.

Will this current stratospheric warming event near the North Pole force another Arctic surge into the USA about 3 weeks out? Maybe. Stay tuned. This is how it happened in January.

THREATENING RECORDS:

Each of the next several days we will at least be in the “Record High neighborhood”.  Especially Wednesday through Sunday.

SEVERE WEATHER AWARENES: ‘Tis the season for severe weather across the Gulf south.  The peak season runs from now into May.  We also have a secondary season in the Fall.  Speaking in broader terms, it’s really become one long season from about late October to mid May.

In 2023, 70 tornadoes touched down across Alabama. Unfortunately, 9 lives were lost, and over 29 were injured.

This is severe weather awareness week in Alabama and adjoining states.   Time for you and your family to gear up and prepare. Read more about preparedness here.
