Good Morning! It’s an unusually cold morning for so late in the season. The frost advisory continues until 8AM. Farther north, some north Alabama towns will fall to freezing or below. Expect a nice day today with a high near 70. (Normal 77/51) We’ll be in the upper 70’s Thursday. There is yet another Severe threat beginning Thursday afternoon in the northern counties and Thursday evening across the central counties, as far south as Greenville and Troy where there is a Level 1 risk. Otherwise, we’re expecting a storm-free, nice weekend. It will turn somewhat cooler again Friday and Saturday. Sunday wilk be sunny and warmer. Here’s my brief forecast discussion.
TODAY: A cold, frosty start. Frost Advisory until 8AM. Abundant sunshine. High near 70. Light wind. Clear and still chilly tonight, but not quite as cold. Low 43.

As of 2:30 AM (4/9/25) The Alabama River at Montgomery crested at 35.91 feet. This is just above the 35 foot flood stage. The Emarald Mountain Toll Bridge is closed because of flooding.

NEXT FEW DAYS: Thursday will be the warmest day of the week. Expect a High in the upper 70’s. A weak cold front could produce a few strong storms by Thursday evening. Friday and Saturday will turn cooler again. The weekend will be nice. Storm-free. Lots of sunshine. Saturday’s high will barely reach 70, but Sunday will be a little warmer with a high in the middle 70’s. Tuesday another front approaches. I have us dry for now. That could change.

Could we go a whole week without SPC issuing a Severe Risk in our state? Apparently not. North Alabama is in a Level 2 risk as of mid afternoon Thursday. The severe threat extends as far south as Greenville and Troy where there is a Level 1 risk. Damaging wind gusts and large hail are the main risks. On the southern end, the main timeline will be from about 6 to 10PM.

Here’s the 10 day model blend temperature trend. Expect a little temperature set-back, again on Friday and Saturday. Looks like next week will be a bit warmer.

BEACH FORECAST: Moderate Rip Current risk. Should be a nice weekend with lots of sunshine. A little below normal on the temperature. Gulf water temperature is still a cool 71.
