FRIDAY Update:  Nice Weekend Ahead – Spring-like Warmth

Good Morning! After a stormy night,  the risk of showers will be ending very early today, as the front heads toward the coast. Get ready for a beautiful weekend as February ends and March begins.  Sunshine returns.  Highs in the 70’s.  Spring Fever is back on the menu for several days.  Next week will be storm-free and dry.  Lots of sunshine.  Highs well into the 70’s.  80’s by late next week.  The news is good!  Next major storm system perhaps closer to March 7-8th. Here’s my brief forecast discussion.

TODAY:    Risk of showers and thunderstorms before 9am. Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 71. (Normal 68/43)

TONIGHT:   Partly cloudy.  Low 52.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  We have a rather spectacular weekend forecast.  Expect plenty of sunshine.  Highs in the 70’s.  Most of next week will be storm-free and dry.  Lots of sunshine.  Highs well into the 70’s.  80’s by late next week.

The Euro Ensemble  16 Day model temperature trend.  No cold air .

STORMY FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT: Possible tornado late yesterday afternoon in Jefferson county near Pinson/Trussville. NWS survey today. Several Severe Thunderstorm warnings, many for large hail Check out these pictures from Altoona in Blount county. One inch in diameter hail.

DROUGHT MONITOR:  The widespread drought in Alabama continues to expand.

PLANETS WILL ALLIGN: A rare “planet parade” featuring six planets—Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune—will align in the night sky around  Saturday Night,  February 28, 2026. Visible just after sunset in the western sky, this celestial event will form an arc along the ecliptic, with Venus and Jupiter being the brightest, while Uranus and Neptune will require binoculars.   Looks like the weather will cooperate!

  Best Time: Shortly after sunset, looking towards the western horizon.

  Visibility: Venus and Jupiter will be very bright, with Mercury and Saturn also visible to the naked eye. Uranus and Neptune will likely require optical aid.

DAYS TILL Officially SPRING:  22 days!  Meteorological Spring starts Sunday.
