TUESDAY Update:  Warm-Continues – Flirting with Late Week Records?

Good Morning!  Alabamians are enjoying a rather remarkable string of warm days.  Highs will reach the upper 70’s again today after 80° in Montgomery yesterday. We should be in the low to mid 80’s for several days – perhaps flirting with records.  Spotty scattered showers and thunderstorms to the forecast Thursday and Friday – perhaps a little more concentrated by Saturday and Sunday.  Any potential Severe Weather threat will hold off for now.  Stay tuned. Here’s my brief video forecast discussion.

TODAY:   Sun and cloud mix.  High 78.  SE wind 5 to 10 gusting to 20 mph.

(Normal 69/44)

TONIGHT:   Partly cloudy.  Low 54.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  The warming continues.  Wednesday through Saturday, at least, we’ll be in the lower 80’s. Nights in the 50/s/60s.   A couple of upper air disturbances will bring the risk of spotty showers and thunderstorms to the forecast Thursday and Friday – perhaps a little more concentrated by Saturday.

We will be at least flirting with record highs especially Friday and Saturday.

Starting by about Wednesday there will be a growing severe weather threat in the middle of the country.

We’ll continue to monitor.

The 10 Day model Blend Temperature Trend.  The warmth continues.

The Euro Ensemble  16 Day model temperature trend.

TORNADO ANNIVERSARY:   Seven years ago today -On the afternoon of March 3, 2019, a violent and long-tracked EF4 tornado struck portions of eastern Alabama and western Georgia, causing extreme damage along its path. Hardest hit was involved that long track EF-4 tornado in Macon and Lee. This tornado was the deadliest tornado in the United States since the 2013 Moore tornado, killing 23 and injuring 97. Though a total six tornadoes impacted areas across southern and southeastern Central Alabama that afternoon.

FULL BLOOD RED (Worm Moon):   It’s  officially full early this morning at 5:38 AM CST.

This morning , the first total lunar eclipse of the year will transform the full “Worm Moon” into a dramatic, coppery-red Blood Moon. This global event will last over five hours, with the peak totality phase spanning 58 minutes as the Moon passes fully through the darkest part of Earth’s shadow.

The total lunar eclipse (blood moon) on March 3, 2026, will feature 100% totality in Montgomery, AL, as the moon completely enters the Earth’s shadow. The total phase (totality) begins at 5:04 a.m. CST and ends at 6:02 a.m. CST, with the moon setting shortly after at 6:24 a.m.   The moon will be copper/red in color during the eclipse.

  • Maximum Eclipse: 5:30 a.m. CST.
  • Visibility: The entire event is visible, but the moon will be low on the horizon towards the end
