MONDAY UPDATE:  Excessive Rainfall This Week

Good morning!  After a nice weekend, big changes are underway as an upper low & storm system approaches from the west.  That’s the first storm system of the week.  Showers and storms are likely today, tonight and Tuesday.  Some storm could be strong, possibly severe.  We get a little break in the action Wednesday as sunshine returns.  Expect storm system number two by Thursday night into Friday and possibly Saturday.  Toal rainfall amounts could be quite excessive for the week ahead.  Here’s my brief forecast discussion.

TODAY:  Showers and thunderstorms likely today and tonight.  Some storms could be strong, possibly severe.  High 76.  Low tonight 68.

Here’s the setup. Low pressure at the surface and aloft west of us will combine for a very stormy forecast today tonight and Tuesday.

SPC’s Day 1 Severe risk outlines the strongest threat in south Alabama along and south of a  Greenville/Troy line.  In fact, there’s a Level 3 Enhanced Risk near the coast.  Many of us are in a Marginal Risk today and tomorrow.  Damaging winds is the main threat.

Late breaking: Severe Thunderstorm watch for most of south Alabama until 11AM. Scattered wind gusts to 75 mph. Hail to ping pong size. A couple of tornadoes. This watch does not include Selma, Montgomery or Auburn.

FUTURE RADAR:  Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms. One by late this morning.  Another wave of showers and storms arrives tonight.

A rare feature called WAKE LOW could promote mid day wind speeds 40+ mph. It’s possible. Jackson MS is gusting over 40 mph..

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Showers and storms are likely through Tuesday.  Some storm could be strong, possibly severe.  We get a little break in the action Wednesday as sunshine returns.  Expect storm system number two by Thursday night into Friday and possibly Saturday.

Look at the expected rainfall though next week!  WOW.  That’s a bunch of rain.
