Weekend Forecast Update: Front Brings More Showers

This is not what you want to hear.. An approaching front, interacting with the Remnants of Cindy will produce a lot of showers and thunderstorms in the state today.  It won’t rain all the time, but your odds of occasionally getting wet are very good.  There will be some tropical downpours which could produce another inch of rain in spots, today & this evening.  The news gets better for many of us tomorrow.  The front will reach the coast, and the showers will thin out across south Alabama.  Some really nice air filters in behind the front for Monday & Tuesday.

Just a sample of a couple of Future Radar snapshots. Don’t take these literally, this is just one model idea.  Our weather app, with radar and future radar will keep you on top of changes during the day.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Rain chances are strongest today, but then showers shift to south Alabama and the coast Sunday, and some really nice weather finally comes in for Monday and Tuesday.

NICE AIR AHEAD:  It’s about time.  Finally, Alabama will get a chance to dry out, with some sunshine, and lower humidity in place on Monday and Tuesday.  Just what the doctor ordered.

Hang on!

Showers will return later in the week.

Right now, the tropics are quiet.  I don ‘t see any new tropical system in the next few days.

Have a nice weekend.

3:00 UPDATE:  Tracking Showers & Storms

While many of us have been enjoying the sun today, we are tracking a line of showers and storms across much of west Alabama heading toward the central counties. By late this afternoon or early this evening, many of us could see some stronger storms as this line moves into the area. There were some warnings with the line earlier. Right now the storms are “behaving”. Some of us will see some very heavy downpours and gusty winds from the stronger storms in this line. Several counties in north Alabama are still under a tornado watch ahead of this line. I’ll continue to monitor.

On our Weather App, Radar And Future Radar will keep you up to date on the future progress on this line.  It will also notify you of there are any watches or warnings.

More Showers & Storms – Severe Threat – Friday Video

Good Morning!  Alabama is not done with “The Cindy Effect” yet.  Much of the state is under a severe weather risk again today. Another tornado risk, especially north.  And, it looks like a lot of Saturday plans could be affected by the weather, too.  But hang on!  I see some brighter, drier better days on the horizon finally, after some prolific rain totals last few days.  I’ll fill you in on some positive news on your Friday morning weather personal weather briefing.

The Remnants of Cindy will trek from Arkansas to the Ohio Valley today, and again, it’s far reaching plume of tropical moisture will affect Alabama again today with another severe weather risk.

Today’s severe weather risk, covering much of the state.  Tornado risk again.

Once again, scattered showers and storms may affect some weekend plans.  It won’t rain all the time.  Have a Plan B.  Be flexible.

The threat of occasional short-lived spin up tornadoes will continue across much of Alabama this afternoon and into most of the  evening hours.  Be weather aware and be ready to take action.  Our weather app will alert you to the latest watches and warnings for your area.  ALSO, the threat of Flash Flooding will continue from tropical downpours associated with the outer rain bands of Cindy.  Significant additional rainfall amounts are likely which could cause serious flash flooding in spots.  The threat for showers and storms with locally heavy downpours will continue into the evening hours  and even into the overnight hours tonight.  Although the tornado risk will start to slow down after sunset, small chances will continue overnight.

Here’s the latest Tornado Watch in effect until 10PM. That’s a long watch.  Very typical for tropical weather systems.  The eastern edge of this watch includes Macon, Tallapoosa, Crenshaw, and Covington.  It includes most of the state.

The severe weather threat covers much of Alabama and surrounding states today and tonight.

Tomorrow the severe weather threat with the remnants of Cindy migrates northward.  Still a spin up tornado threat.
