Good Morning from the National Weather Association Conference in Tulsa! Our weather pattern is evolving. After a weekend of numerous showers and storms, the trend this week will be for fewer storms, more sun, hotter days and dangerous heat indices. A ridge of high pressure is expanding eastward. (It’s over us now in Tulsa, where we have had and Excessive Heat Warning, here.) Think of it as a Heat Dome. Under “the dome, storms will thin out in number for the next few days.
TODAY: There will be a good bit of sunshine, mixed with some clouds. High in the mid 90’s Heat Index today 100 to 104. There will be only widely scattered storms today. Few and far between. Your odds of encountering one are small. North wind at 5 to 10. Low tonight mid 70’s.
NEXT FEW DAYS: Tuesday’s heat index will be as high as 106. Close to the criteria for a Heat Advisory. Rain chance will be tiny. 20% or less. Look for mid 90’s each day through Friday. Heat index at least near or above the 105 danger level. Scattered random storms.
TROPICAL UPDATE: Besides Henri over New England, the National Hurricane Center is tracking two Areas to Watch. One in the Atlantic. The other one is in the western Caribbean. Sort of our backyard. It could have a Gulf of Mexico future. Maybe. Both Areas to watch currently have a small chance of development in the next 5 days. We’ll watch.
Here’s the EURO Model Tropical Depression Probability for the week ahead. We note the Gulf.
The National Weather Association Conference continues this morning, here at the Hyatt in downtown Tulsa. Yesterday was the Broadcaster’s Workshop. This morning is the keynote address at 8AM. One of the highlight’s to day will be an address from National Hurricane Center director Ken Graham. Tonight, many of us broadcasters will gather for our yearly dinner. Always a fun event.
Meanwhile, Chase is back at home, vacationing and being pampered by Ms. Harriett in Wetumpka.
Hope you have a nice Monday. A quick note about tomorrow….I have a ridiculously early flight out of here at 6:00 AM Tuesday morning, so my Blog update for you may be rather abbreviated. Thanks for understanding. We’ll get back to regular weather videos on Wednesday morning.
