Good Morning! Here’s my brief video forecast discussion.
CLIMATE DATA: Yesterday’s high in Montgomery was 89, Morning low 73. Normal High/Low 94 and 72. Rainfall: .01” Sunrise at 6:07 AM. Sunset 7:34. The full sturgeon moon is very bright this morning. That may hinder viewing the meteor shower tonight. See below for more
TODAY: Storms will tend to be scattered to numerous again today, especially this afternoon & this evening, but random Locally heavy downpours in spots. Storms fade out overnight High today 90 Low tonight 72.
Hi-res Future Radar models (HRRR and WRF) are in pretty good agreement on the general storm coverage late this afternoon.
NEXT FEW DAYS: Scattered to numerous, but random showers & thunderstorms again Friday as a frontal system migrates southward. Locally heavy downpours. Storms start to thin out in number Saturday and Sunday, and even Monday & Tuesday. More widely scattered. Highs 90-93 each day. Lows at night in the low 70’s.
A southward moving front will be the focus for storms across the southern half of the state Friday. By Saturday, the best rain chances shift southward to the coast.
The front will also bring somewhat lower humidity for the central and northern part of the state over the weekend. Lower dewpoints. You’ll feel the difference.

BEACH OUTLOOK: If you are planning a late season Beach getaway, the news is not great. Higher than normal rain chances continue through the weekend. Highs in the 80’s. Gulf Water temperature 86. Rip current HIGH, especially from Destin eastward, through Saturday and Moderate Sunday.
If you’re beachbound this weekend…bring a book. Locally heavy downpours.
TROPICAL OUTLOOK: NHC is still monitoring Invest 97-L, but it looks like it starting to fizzle. It has a low 10% low chance of development to a tropical cyclone next 5 days.
It does not look impressive on the Satellite this morning, at all.
PERSEID METEOR SHOWER PEAKS TONIGHT:
The annual Perseid meteor shower is approaching its peak, and you can enjoy the event live online.
The 2022 Perseid meteor shower is expected to peak between Aug. tonight & Friday night. However, the bright moonlight from August’s full Sturgeon Moon TONIGHT will complicate viewing the meteor shower’s peak.
“Because of the full moon on the night of their peak, we will run this live feed two days earlier, so our satellite will be below the horizon, with still a very good number of meteors!” Gianluca Masi of the Virtual Telescope Project wrote.
