MONDAY UPDATE: Canadian Cool-down Ahead This Week

Good morning!  On this Columbus Day, we’ve got a beautiful start to this new week.  We’ll reach the lower 80’s.  But, on the weather map, a dry cold front will sweep across the state.  That will usher in some progressively cooler air as the week unfolds.  By mid week, the coolest air of the season will cover the Deep South.  Highs by Wednesday will probably not make it out of the 60’s.  We’ll likely tease the 40 degrees mark by Thursday AM. The chill will fade by the weekend. We’ll be back to the 80’s by Sunday.  Once again this week, we should be bone dry.  In the Tropics, we’re watching Invest 94-L. Here’s my brief forecast discussion.

TODAY:  Sunshine.  Warm for October.  High near 83. NW wind 5-10 mph.  Clear chilly tonight.  Jacket weather.  Low near 52.  (Normal hi/Lo 82/56)

Here’s the map.  See that blue line?  That’s the Canadian cool front at mid-day heading toward the Gulf Coast.

NEXT FEW DAYS: Expect another dry week.  By mid week, the coolest air of the season will cover the Deep South.  Highs by Wednesday and maybe Thursday will probably not make it out of the 60’s.  We’ll likely tease the 40 degrees mark by Thursday AM. The chill will fade by the weekend.

Temperatures by Wednesday night will be running about 16 degrees below normal.

The 10 Day Model Blend Temperature Trend.  That mid-week Canadian cool down will not last too many days. The chill will be fading by the weekend.

DROUGHT MONITOR:  Not a drop of rain is expected across the Gulf South for several more days.   It’s getting dry.  87% of the state is in some level of drought, with 30% in an expanding moderate drought.

TROPICAL UPDATE:  Invest 94-L is looking more interesting.  With a 40% chance of development, we could see a Depression later this week as this system continues westward toward the Islands.  The next available name is Nadine.

Here’s the GFS Ensemble forecast and The EURO Tropical Depression probability.

Thanks for reading the blog. There will be another complete Blog update and video forecast discussion tomorrow morning.  This morning, everything is normal including LIVE on the Radio from 6 to 9AM on NewsTalk 93.1 – WACV.  Have a nice day!
