SATURDAY UPDATE: Nearly Perfect Holiday Weekend Forecast – Very Comfortable

Good Morning!   The front that moved through the area Friday evening delivered the first raindrops to the area in weeks. (see rain amounts below)  Now, behind the front, some cooler, much less humid air is funneling into the state.  Timing is everything.  We should see one of the best Memorial Day weekends weatherwise in many years.  It will be nice at the Lakes and at the packed Gulf Coast Beaches, too.

The next risk of showers, and higher humidity, will arrive around the middle of next week.  Meanwhile, the tropics are quiet.  Hurricane season begins, officially, on Tuesday.

HOW MUCH RAIN DID YOU GET?:  Rainfall totals varied quite a bit, but most towns got at least some rain.  Officially Montgomery had .27” at Dannley  Field.   A few miles away, Maxwell AFB had .46.  I had .37 in East Montgomery.  Prattville had .18, Greenville .23,  and Alex City only had .02.

The heaviest total I could find….Troy had a whopping 1.91”!

TODAY:  Nice day.  Noticeably cooler and less humid.  Breezy.  Northwest wind 6 to 16.  Clear tonight and pleasantly cool for this late in the season.  Low 55.   Very nice.

SUNDAY AND MEMORIAL DAY:  Low humidity.  Sunshine.  Very comfortable.  Sunday’s high 84.  Low Sunday night 57.   Monday’s high 89.  Take a look at this map!   This is dewpoint during the day Sunday.  WOW.  40’s!  Keep in mind, in the long hot summer, dewpoints are in the 70’s.  Ouch!

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Very comfortable humidity through the Holiday Weekend.  Even Tuesday won’t be bad.  A little Hotter.  Tropical Wave affects the area with scattered showers and thunderstorms, and higher humidity, Wednesday and Thursday.  Welcome to June.

BEACH FORECAST:  Timing is everything.  Showers moved through, with the front, in the overnight hours.  The rest of the weekend looks great.  Highs in the lower 80’s.  Lower humidity.   Dry.  Gulf water temperature 80.   Moderate rip current risk today…yellow flags.  A lower risk expected Sunday and Monday.

I will have another Blog Update for you tomorrow morning.

Have a nice Holiday weekend!  The weather should be sparkling!
