Good Morning! Friday was the hottest day of the summer so far with 97 and a heat Index of 112. Big Heat produces Big Storms. Radar was quite active. It was a very stormy night. A stalled frontal system draped across south Alabama will be the focus for numerous storms today. Some storms will be strong to severe, with a Marginal Severe Risk. Temperatures will be much more reasonable over the weekend. Highs will be in the lower 90’s. On Sunday, the highest rain chance will be close to the coast, south of the front. By early next week, it’ll be a drier, hotter forecast as the mercury heads back to the mid 90’s.
TODAY: Risk of storms anytime. Could be multiple rounds. Limited sunshine. Numerous showers and storms. Some strong, possibly severe. Not as hot. High near 90. Low tonight 73.
Here’s a Future Radar Snapshot. This suggests it could be quite active early this evening.
SPC has most of us in a Level 1 Marginal Severe Risk. Damaging wind gusts is the main risk. There will be prolific lightning.
NEXT FEW DAYS:. Expect more scattered storms Sunday. The better rain chance will shift south of the front in extreme south Alabama and down on the coast. High temperatures come down to the lower 90’s again on Sunday. By early next week, it’ll be a drier, hotter forecast as the mercury heads back to the mid 90’s. We could even see upper 90’s by Wednesday.
TROPICAL UPDATE: Tropical Storm Don is still spinning around in the east central Atlantic. That Area to Watch in the tropical Atlantic has now been promoted to Invest 95-L. There is now a high 70% chance of development. NHC says this could become a Depression in the next day or two. The next name on the list is Emily.
BEACH FORECAST: The BEST rain chance this weekend, will be on the coast, south of the front stalled in south Alabama. Just be prepared and flexible. Have a plan B. Highs in the 80’s. Moderate Rip Current risk.
