TUESDAY Update:  Cool Mardi Gras Forecast – Drying Out for a Few Days – Weekend Cold Blast

Good morning!   Happy Fat Tuesday!  It should be a breezy and rather cool Mardi Gras.  But, after morning clouds, the sun will return and central Alabama will get a chance to dry out after 4 to 6+ inches of flooding rain!  It’ll be cold tonight with lower 30’s.  However, it looks like Wednesday, Thursday and part of Friday will be rather nice as temperatures rebound.  Next chance of rain is Friday night into Saturday. Get ready for a weekend temperature plunge.  It won’t be as extreme as that mid-January Arctic Crash, but it will be the coldest air since then.  Wind chill will be a factor.  Numbers and details below.  Here’s my brief forecast discussion.

.

TODAY:  Clouds early, give way to cool sunshine.  Breezy.  High 57.  NW wind could gust as high as 25 mph. Clear and cold tonight.  We’ll tease the freeze mark.  Low 33.

NEXT FEW DAYS:  Sunshine will be in abundance on Wednesday and Thursday.   We’re back to the 60’s on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The next risk of rain begins Friday and Friday night into Saturday. Get ready for a weekend temperature plunge.  It won’t be as extreme as that mid-January Arctic Crash, but it will be the coldest air since then.  Wind chill will be a factor.

This time the main storm system will stay out in the Gulf of Mexico.  That’s also where the heaviest rain will be.

WEEKEND COLD PLUNGE:  It’s the coldest air we’ve seen in about a month.  It may not be here long, but it will be quite a shock to the system.  Coldest morning will be Sunday AM.  Potential wind chill in the Teens.

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 125 years ago…Feb, 13, 1899, one of the coldest mornings ever observed in the U.S. The “Great Arctic Outbreak..  It’s many cities ALL TIME RECORD COLD DAY…including Montgomery -5 , Mobile -1, Tallahassee -2…Ice floating on the Mississippi[pi river south of New Orleans.

Thanks for reading the blog. There will be another complete Blog update and video forecast discussion tomorrow morning.  This morning, everything is normal including LIVE on the Radio from 6 to 9AM on NewsTalk 93.1 – WACV.  Have a great day.
