There have been significant changes in the forecast for the week ahead. Some things haven’t changed. We still have a very wet Monday ahead. Tuesday will be a cold, wet, windy day with falling temperatures. But, the idea of a widespread freeze across the area on Wednesday and Thursday is now off the board. It’s complicated, but conditions in the upper atmosphere will not allow for a “clean sweep” of the cold air in through the region. An upper low just west of the state will prevent that from happening.
CHILLY MORNING: Its a very chilly Veteran’s Day morning with patchy frost in spots. At 6AM: Montgomery and Maxwell AFB, and Selma are reporting 39. It’s 36 in Prattville and Alex City, 38 in Auburn and Sylacauga is at freezing this morning at 32.
TODAY: It should be a pretty nice Veteran’s Day. Partly sunny. Clouds will increase during the afternoon, becoming cloudy by tonight. High near 60. Tonight, showers will be likely mainly after Midnight. Low 48.
DRENCHING RAINS THEN COLDER: Monday, Monday night and Tuesday morning and mid-day will be very wet indeed. Some of us could easily see 2 to 3” with even heavier amounts over the southern counties. Adding insult to injury on Tuesday will be the chill. Temperatures, which will be near 50 early in the day will drop to about 43 by late afternoon. Gusty north wind at 12 to 22+ mph will make it seem colder.
Here’s the potential rainfall through mid-day Tuesday.
NEXT FEW DAYS: Very wet Monday through mid-day Tuesday. Tuesday will be a raw November day, with the risk of rain until Noon or early afternoon, and falling temperatures and gusty north wind. A small risk of a few lingering showers will still be around Wednesday and Thursday, but the idea of a widespread Freeze Wednesday and Thursday morning is now off the board. Drier air and sunshine returns by Friday.
